Better Than Movie Theater Popcorn
Bonlemon #9: Better than any movie theater popcorn made with vegan butter and turmeric
Hi, how are you? I hope you have a great day and a great week. It has been a fun week for me. I went to the mountains to Lake Arrowhead in California. The weather was so beautiful, and it was not crowded at all. I love the view and food at Hortencia’s at the Clifhanger in Crestline. We sometimes drive up there 2 hours just to get lunch or dinner here. I highly recommend it. Here is a little video I took of my kid and my husband by the cliffhanger. The restaurant is about a mile ahead.
This week I have a treat for you. If you want to go to the movies with your own popcorn with better ingredients and “better taste,” well you got this!
Why will you love this popcorn?
You do not need to go to the movie theater to enjoy the most mouthwatering buttery popcorn ever! Enjoy buttery goodness at home with this simple vegan and healthy recipe. It is so easy to make. Take a look at this reel I made on Instagram, and you’ll see how easy it comes together.
What makes this movie theater popcorn “healthy”?
This movie theater popcorn is made with organic ingredients. It only takes popcorn kernels, ground turmeric, and vegan butter or oil. This popcorn does not have any additives or preservatives harmful to your health, and you have control over how much salt you add and the quality of butter you use.
Equipment you may need
Big pot with lid – you do not want a heavy Dutch oven for this. Make sure it is a large pot that you can easily move because we will be shaking this pot on the stovetop when the popping starts.

Let’s dive into our recipe for the week!
Better Than Movie Theater Popcorn
See recipe in our blog: Better Than Movie Theater Popcorn
Cooking Method: Stove Top Cuisine: American, Vegan Courses: Snack Recipe Difficulty: Beginner Prep Time 2 min Cook Time 5 min Total Time7 mins Servings: 6 Best Season: Suitable throughout the year
Ingredients
1 cup Popcorn kernels (organic)
1/4 teaspoon Ground turmeric
3 tablespoons Vegan butter (I used Trader Joe's salted brand)
1/4 teaspoon Sea salt (or more if needed)
Possible add ons
2 tablespoons Melted butter
1/4 teaspoon Black Pepper (to add to turmeric’s absorption)
Instructions
Measure 3 tablespoons of vegan salted butter or coconut oil, or any oil you like and place in a big pot on the stove top in medium to high heat.
When the butter melts or the oil gets hot, add the turmeric and stir quickly, then immediately add the popcorn kernels. Stir more and cover the pot with a lid but leave it ajar so steam can escape. Reduce the heat to medium heat. Shake the pot frequently to avoid burning.
Grab the sides of your pot with heat resistant mittens to protect your hands from the heat and shake the pot so that the kernels do not stick to the bottom. Be very careful. Shake until the popcorn starts popping.
Let the popcorn pop for a little while and wait until the pops slow down. Remove immediately from the heat. Let the popcorn rest covered for about 5 minutes to prevent the popcorn jumping in your face.
Serve and add salt, garlic salt, or pepper to taste. You can add 2 tbsp melted butter for extra butter flavor.

LOVE & POPCORN,
Turmeric is a big part of Indian cooking. We use it for our lentil soups and even add it to warm milk as a sleep aid (Google Haldi dhoodh). I'm curious as to how it'll go with popcorn!
But I've always had bad experiences with popcorn as those pesky kernels get wedged between the 'ol molars.
Turmeric! Will try this tonight :)
